Verily Six Bugs Bloodlines
We would like to introduce
you to some of the most famous of his bloodlines Sunrise West Ranch
the owners of Verily Six Bugs Sire Verily Sixes has collected informative
information on his bloodlines and we want to pass this on. This will
help to explain why we feel so strongly that these bloodlines produce
winners. Sunrise West Ranch put together information that will introduce
you to the great horses of the past and present that will be contributing
to our present program. I have searched for a long time to find a colt
like him and I feel it has been worth the wait. If you are interested
in learning more about the bloodlines, past and present, that have had
a significant influence on barrel racing and pole bending please read
on. Following is a list of stallions that are playing an important role
in the barrel horse industry. These stallions can be found in Tanners
pedigree From Sunrise West web site
Bugs Alive in 75 , The leading maternal grandsire of today's barrel
horse winners. Foaled in 1973, the 15.2 hand sorrel stallion was named
for the year he would be eligible to run in the All-American Futurity.
And run he did. In 1975 he lived up to his name, winning the All-American
and with it the richest purse quarter horse racing had witnessed up
to that time. That same year he was named Quarter Horse Running 2-year-old
Colt and Stallion, and was the 1975 High Money-Earning Horse. Those
closest to him have contributed clues to his success. His jockey likened
his start to a drag race. He said that the horse took such a deep bite
of the ground, that with all his power, is was like 'spinning your wheels'
at the start. He was said to come out of the gate so strong that you
had to be careful not to lose control. Top a good start like that with
blinding speed and you have one hard to catch horse. His wins were at
distances of 330 yards up to 440 yards. He had the start and the quick
speed, and also the stamina to see it through. Bugs Alive died following
colic surgery on December 15, 1985 at the age of 12. He was owned by
the late Ralph Shebester, and Tommy Wells of Harrah, Oklahoma, stood
him. In an interview with Barrel Horse News, Wells was asked about the
traits the stallion passed on to his progeny. "Stamina and willpower,"
he said. "They're not quitters. Bugs wasn't a quitter. Pain's no
problem, they just keep going." In the barrel arena, Bugs Alive
has sired some top money earners, and two (2) were out of the great
mare, Slash J Harletta, the dam of Fire Water Flit. One of these was
Smakabug, a 1980 model that took Celie Ray and Jimmie Munroe to the
WPRA pay window. The other was I Got Bugs, a 1982 gelding that Celie
Ray rode all the way to the NFR in 1987 and 1989. Today, Bugs Alive
is making the greatest impression with his maternal offspring. His own
daughters are older now, and growing scarce, but they are still producing
horses of rare quality. The April 2002 edition of Barrel Horse News
listed Bugs Alive In 75 as the number one leading maternal grandsire
of barrel horses in 2001. But it gets better. When you look at the statistics,
please note the number of horses reported. If only one or two horses
contribute to a high rating, then that winning horse could be a fluke.
But Bugs Alive had 54 money winning horses contribute to his rating!
That tells us this blood wins when crossed with many different types
of mares, and when the horses are ridden by many different riders.
Bugs Alive In 75 - barrel
horse bloodlines at their best!Top Moon, The sire of Bugs Alive and
Bugged Moon.Top Moon was bred like the great Jet Deck: Both were 1960
sons of Moon Deck and out of Barred daughters. That must have been a
potent combination. Top Moon produced two (2) All-American Futurity
winners: Bugs Alive In 75, and Moon Lark. There was almost a third,
when Lady Bug's Moon finished second to Three Oh's in 1968. With a speed
index of 100, Top Moon did all right for himself. He won at distances
of 350 to 440 yards, and equaled a track record at 400 yards. This horse
produced over 1,800 foals from twenty (20) breeding seasons, a number
that ranks him as one of the top AQHA producing stallions. He had over
800 race ROM earners, 19 Performance ROM earners, and four (4) race
world champions. Statistics show that Top Moon influenced barrel racing
most through his sons Lady Bug's Moon and Bugs Alive In 75. Other major
contributers include Bugged Moon, full brother to Bugs Alive, Moon Lark,
and Joe Tee.
His sire is Verily Sixes
owned by Pat and Ken Smith of Washington His sire is Packin Sixes ,
A leading barrel horse sire featuring Streakin Six. On the track Packin
Sixes had a speed index of 99. He started 19 races, winning five, showing
twice, and placing once. He was a finalist in the All American Futurity,
and had lifetime earnings of over $86,000. He suddenly appeared on the
barrel racing scene as several of his offspring moved to the top of
the list of money-winning barrel horses. People took notice at the exceptionally
high percentage of winners that he produced. Packin Sixes died on June
15, 1998 at the age of 12. We'll never know how prolific a sire of leading
barrel horses he could have been. Packin Sixes was on the Leading Barrel
Horse Sires list several times: 2000: Number 1 1999: Number 11 1998:
Number 2 1997: Number 2 (On The Money Red was Number 1) Following is
a list of headlines from articles in The Barrel Horse News and The Quarter
Horse News related to Packin Sixes: April, 2001: Packin A Mighty Punch
- Packin Sixes leads sires. February 2001: Packin Sixes Dominates World
Champion Barrel Horse Sale. September 1998: A Legend Lives On - Packin
Sixes and Jet Deck July 1998: Only the Good Die Young - Farewell to
Packin Sixes June, 1998: Gone but not Forgotten - Packin Sixes Dies
April, 1998: Packin Sixes Sells Verily Six Bugs Sire Verily Sixes' dam,
Money Red Bar, was bred to Packin Sixes via cool shipped semen in April,
1998, and only a couple of months later, he was gone. We understand
that Verily Sixes is the only Packin Sixes offspring out of an On The
Money Red mare. You can get more information on her via the pedigree
page of Sunrise West QH farm. Sunrise West Quarter Horses, Barrel Racing

Packin Sixes sire Streakin
Six, The sire of Packin Sixes and Charmayne James' Cruiser. The name
of Streakin Six is being discovered in the pedigrees of more and more
barrel horses, due to the siring success of his sons and grandsons.
In the Equistat barrel horse leading money winning statistics for 2001,
Streakin Six was reported as the number 8 leading paternal grandsire,
and the number 3 leading maternal grandsire. And it doesn't hurt his
record at all that Charmayne James' great horse, Cruiser, is a son of
Streakin Six. After a super year, he and Charmayne 'cruised' to a win
in the average that clinched the world title at the 2002 NFR. On the
track, Streakin Six earned a speed index of 104, with personal winnings
of just under a half million dollars. This 1977 son of Easy Six placed
second at the prestigious AQHA All American Futurity as a 2 year old.
Streakin Six is a leading sire of racing champions, with his offspring
earning more than $14 million. All the Streakin Six foals that will
ever be are already on the ground. Today he is pensioned at the 6666
Ranch in Texas
On The Money Red ( 1978
2001 ) - the most prolific sire of money-winning barrel horses
of all time. The concept of breeding horses specifically for barrel
racing is relatively new in the horse world, and On The Money Red was
one of the first stallions to rise to prominence in this specialty area.
The blossoming barrel futurity industry took note of him as his race
starters made the move to successful barrel racing careers. Then throughout
the 90's and up to the present day, a steady stream of On The Money
Red offspring have been found at the very top of the standings. He has
earned the ranking of the number one sire of money winning barrel horses
more times than any other stallion, and in 2002, a year after his death,
he is number one once again. Following is a list of the rankings, as
reported by Equistat: 2002: Number 1 (with 72 winning horses contributing!)
2001: Number 3 (with 59 winning horses contributing!) 2000: Number 5
1999: Number 3 1997: Number 1 1996: Number 1 1995: Number 1 1993: Number
1 1991: Number 1 On The Money Red is at the top of the statistics in
more ways than one. There will always be exceptional equine athletes
that seem to come out of nowhere, and when the dollars are tallied,
these horses can catapult their sires to the top of the list. That is
why we feel it is important to look at the number of offspring contributing
to a stallion's dollar total. The statistics tell the story for On The
Money Red. In 2001, he had 59 money-winning offspring, and in 2002,
there were an amazing 72! That suggests success for many different riders,
with different skill levels, riding equine athletes out of many different
mares. With this kind of success and high visibility in the barrel horse
industry, it is not surprising that an acronym emerged as a simple way
to refer to this stallion. In discussions among barrel horse people,
and also in advertisements, On The Money Red is commonly known as OTMR.
In the WPRA, On The Money Red's most successful offspring to date has
been Speed Money. 'Bumber' was a five-time National Finals qualifier,
was voted WPRA Horse of the Year three times, and was a winner of the
Calgary Stampeed $50,000 round. Speed Money's life-time earnings exceeded
$450,000. Another OTMR offspring in the WPRA was Fallon Taylor's mare,
Flowers And Money, took her down the professional road all the way to
the NFR. On the futurity circuit, Kim Landry as ridden several OTMRs
to fame, including back-to-back wins at Fort Smith. In 1996 she took
top futurity honors on See My Money, in 1997 epeat with On The Money
Luv. On The Money Reds have a reputation for being intelligent, fast,
with a lot of heart, and they like to find a barrel and turn it. You
will be impressed with the burst of speed, explosive power, and cat-like
quickness of the OTMRs . On the track On The Money Red earned a speed
index of 103. He was a stakes winner himself, and had six wins, four
seconds, and four thirds from 22 starts. He has sired multiple stakes
winners and AAA-rated race horses. On The Money Red was put down on
January 25, 2001, due to a cancer, but his influence on the barrel horse
industry is far from over. His direct offspring will be seen on the
futurity circuit in 2003, 2004, and 2005. There are several OTMR sons
starting careers as barrel horse sires. It may be that his greatest
contribution will be made through his daughters. We expect to see his
name begin to appear on the maternal grandsires list as own daughters
of OTMR begin to produce equine athletes of the highest quality. Money
Red Bar is the dam of Verily Sixes and an own daughter of On the Money
Red.
